Creating the structure
for others to build.

Yiming Aizezi co-founded and led Engineering Society with Junze Wang and Thomas Refalo. His contribution extended beyond running activities: he helped shape technical content, prepared physical and visual teaching materials, communicated engineering principles and supported students as they moved from concepts to prototypes.

The leadership team documented weekly sessions and project outcomes, creating a record that could support continuity, reflection and future teaching.

Engineering Education Session

Swiss Escapement Workshop

Yiming hosted a session introducing the Swiss escapement mechanism used in mechanical watches. He 3D-printed the components and challenged students to assemble the mechanism.

Inspired by Henry Ford’s moving assembly line, the activity turned a mechanical concept into hands-on learning through physical assembly.

Engineering Education Workshop

Mechanical Mechanisms Workshop

For the 5 February 2025 session, Yiming created educational materials covering levers, gears, cam and followers, and linkages. When the chairs could not attend because of a school commitment, he recorded and edited the complete lesson so the class could continue.

Engineering Competition

Egg Drop Challenge

The society introduced the challenge on 19 February 2025 and supported it through April. Around 25 participants formed roughly seven teams to design, prototype and refine protective structures.

Yiming designed and 3D printed 0.4 mm-wall PLA eggs with durability similar to real eggs, reducing mess while making early tests safer and more repeatable. The teaching connected potential and kinetic energy, momentum, impulse, crumple zones and force duration to design decisions.
